GEICO
A new Charleston-area auto body shop is giving away a free car to a deserving family. Thanks to a partnership between the National Auto Body Council and GEICO Insurance, the dealership will give away a brand-new vehicle on Thursday, April 8, at 1:00 p.m. The winner will be chosen by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and will be the proud owner of a new car worth more than $35,000!
The National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program has donated thousands of vehicles to communities nationwide. The dealerships donate the vehicles to a nonprofit organization that refurbishes them. In this case, GEICO donated a Honda Civic to the nonprofit organization Sistercare. This donation helps support the organization’s mission of supporting children in need. It is the first-ever vehicle of its kind to benefit the organization.
The lawsuit claims GEICO acted unfairly during the COVID-19 pandemic and failed to pass along savings to consumers. A recent lawsuit filed by Jessica Day alleges that GEICO charged California residents exorbitant premiums during the pandemic and misled consumers about passing on the savings. She seeks to represent all California residents who bought GEICO insurance. Jessica Day purchased an auto insurance policy with GEICO after seeing an advertisement for its “Giveback” program.
GEICO Recycled Rides
Several Charleston area companies are teaming up with Geico to provide refurbished vehicles for veterans. The National Auto Body Council oversees the refurbishment of donated vehicles. John Harris Body Shops, in conjunction with Tri-County Veterans Support Network, provide the necessary repairs for the vehicles. Afterward, they donate them to a local charity. The winner will be announced on April 8, 2021.
The car donation was made possible by the National Auto Body Council, a non-profit organization that represents the collision repair industry. The organization has donated more than 2,600 vehicles to deserving individuals and families. The organization is partnered with 1-800 Charity Cars to provide this important service to the community. The JCVF will use the vehicle to transport area veterans to medical appointments. In addition to the JCVF, other local businesses also contributed to the program.
In addition to repairing the vehicle, the nonprofit organizations also worked to make it look like new. For Nancy Barton, Executive Director of Sistercare, the car will be restored to look as good as new. This is a huge relief for survivors of domestic violence, who previously had no means of transportation. Getting to places and working on their car was the biggest challenge. Fortunately, her car is now a gleaming example of the power of teamwork.
